Supplications from Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)

Al-hamdu lillaah. Indeed, all praise is due to Allah. We praise Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from our souls’ evils and our wrong doings. He whom Allah guides, no one can misguide; and he whom He misguides, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no (true) god except Allah – alone without any partners. And I bear witness that Muhammad (pbuh) is His ‘abd (servant) and messenger.

Indeed, the best speech is Allah’s speech; the best guidance is Muhammad’s guidance; and the worst matters (in creed or worship) are those innovated (by the people), for every innovated matter is a bid’ah (prohibited innovation), and every bid’ah is an act of misguidance that (whoever initiated it) will reside in the Fire.

Shaddaad bin Aws (radiAllahu anhu) narrated: The Prophet (pbuh) said, The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is “O Allah, You are my Rabb. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I uphold Your covenant and (my) promise to You as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin; so forgive me. Indeed, there is none who can forgive sins except You”. The Prophet added. “If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise. And if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.” (Bukhari, 8/318)

Our Rabb! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Rabb! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us. Our Rabb! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Protector; grant us victory over the unbelievers. (Al Qur’an 2:286)

Our Rabb! We have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, and save us from the agony of the Fire. (Al Qur’an 3:16)

Zaid bin Arqam (radiAllahu anhu) narrated: I am not going to say anything but only that which Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) used to say. He used to supplicate: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, from sloth, from cowardice, from miserliness, decrepitude and from torment of the grave. O Allah, grant to my soul the sense of righteousness and purify it, for You are the Best Purifier thereof. You are the Protecting Friend thereof and Guardian thereof. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the knowledge which does not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded.” (Muslim, 6568)

Our Rabb! Forgive us our sins and anything we may have done that transgressed our duty. Establish our feet firmly, and help us against those that resist Faith. (Al Qur’an 3:147)

‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiAllahu anhu) narrated: We counted that Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) would say a hundred times during a meeting, “My Rabb, forgive me and pardon me; You are the Pardoning and Forgiving One”. (Abu Dawud, 1511)

Umm Salamah (radiAllahu anha) narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) used to say after the down prayer, “O Allah, I ask you for beneficial knowledge, acceptable action, and good provision.” (Tirimidhi, 2487; Ahmad and Ibn Maajah)

Anas bin Malik (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Prophet (pbuh) said, “When a man goes out of his house and says: ‘In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah’; the following will be said to him at that time, ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: ‘How can you deal with a man who has been guided defended and protected?” (Abu Daawud, 5076)

Aasim bin Kulayb (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said to me, Say: “O Allah, I beg of You righteousness and adhering to the straight path.” (Muslim, 6574)

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said, “Whoever says: ‘Lâ illâha illallâh wahdahû lâ sharîkalahû, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shai’in qadîr’ (There is no god but Allah, the only true god, who has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom (of the universe) and to Him all praises are due, and He has the power to do everything.), one hundred times, he will get the same reward as given for manumitting ten slaves. One hundred good deeds will be written in his accounts. One hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts. And it will be a shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he.” (Bukhari, 8/412; 4/514)

Abû Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said “Whoever says, ‘Subhân Allah wa bihamdihî’ (All Glory and Praises are for Allah.) one hundred times a day, he will be forgiven for all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.” (Bukhari, 8/414)

O my Rabb! Expand me my breast. Ease My task for me; and remove the impediment from my speech, so they may understand what I say.” (Al Qur’an 20:25-28)

O my Rabb! Bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.” (Al Qur’an 26:83-84)

Please convey these supplications to other Muslim brothers and sisters and request them to follow them. As Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

Narrated ‘Abdullah Bin ‘Amr (radiAllahu anhu) that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Convey (my teachings) to the people even it were a single sentence.” (Bukhari 4/667)

Our Rabb! Give us in this world that which is good and in the hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the fire. (Al Qur’an 2.201)
